A Cool Coast – One Eye on the Weather

Day 47 Wednesday 30/7/2025 Nambucca Heads, 11 – 17 pleasant

Toasted raisin bread is on the menu for breakfast, and it is delicious. It’s washing day again and Woody is off to the laundry before I’ve even woken.

Lunch is sushi and a ‘home-made’ walnut cake. On the beach I chat to a local who assures me that there aren’t as many cowries washing up at present. The ‘Princess of the Sea’ she calls them.

Dinner tonight is koftas with mashed potatoes, pumpkin and peas.

There’s more wet weather on the way. We’ve been tossing up as to whether we should leave early and head inland or stay put until it goes through. Caravanning is a lot like sailing in that respect. Always one eye on the weather.

Day 48 Thursday 31/7/2025 Nambucca Heads, Windy about 19

We have a quiet morning indoors as the wind is fierce. Thankfully it eases in the afternoon, and we can get a walk in. I pick up a sad looking lump of dried seaweed off the rocks, inside is a Spengler’s Trumpet Snail shell that will need a lot of elbow grease to find out what it condition it is in. Another project I guess.

We’re still fighting the TV for some reception and manage to get half a news bulletin which basically is 30 minutes of war. Later in the evening there’s news online of the weather front that is expected to hit the NSW coast this weekend. Ugh, things are looking much worse. Checking the NSW Emergency app on the phone I find that almost all the coastal towns from Newcastle up to the Qld border have flood alerts except Nambucca Heads. It’s not worth taking the risk though. It’s time to get ‘outta here’ and with floods to both the north and south the only way is west and that means up.

Accom: $46.00 plus we’ll lose 2 nights already paid in advance.

More threatening weather on the way
