A Cool Coast – Yass to Wang

Day 53 Wednesday 6/8/2025 Yas to Wangaratta, sunny 2 – 12

It’s an early start and a chilly morning, early enough that the road is reasonably quiet with mainly trucks. The landscape now is green rolling hills, sheep and lambs, and blue grey gums. There is always the feeling of heading downwards in this area, you can feel that you are going south. Rusty Yellow mistletoe hangs from the trees and Cootamundra wattles are about to burst forth as tiny golden pom poms.

We leave the highway at Wodonga for a chance to stretch our legs and a quick bite to eat. The Wodonga shopping precinct has morphed into an attractive area over the last few years and it’s easy to find two parking spaces.

We stop for the night at Wang, sorry Wangaratta, it’ll be an easy drive home from here tomorrow. From the moment I walk into the park office I realise that this park is nothing like last night’s in Yass. I’m met by an officious manager who treats both staff and customers as an inconvenience. Last night we were treated as warmly welcomed guests. The park is poor and needs maintenance. We set up on a drive through site (a longer site, thus no unhitching needed) and dive into the van to shut the world out.
