Ararat, Vic
Day 7 Thursday 25/12/2025, Christmas Day Ararat, cold southerly wind 18
At 10:00am we shove the turducken roast in the oven, commenting on how good these things are, not requiring thawing. It’s then that we notice the first set of instructions “thaw for 48 hours”. Bugger! The combo bird is quickly despatched to the microwave for quite a few rotations before returning to the oven. While the poultry sizzles, we pop the top on a Sparkling Shiraz. Miraculously the roast is ready and perfectly cooked by 12:30 with the roasted veggies. Best of all the oven has warmed the caravan.
We heat the plum pudding in the microwave* and it’s perfect with Bailey’s Custard and a few more slurps of the De Bortoli Noble One.
The caravan park is quiet as most people seem to be out visiting. We manage a few minutes in the sun before the cold southerly sends us back inside. Dinner is leftovers, of course.
What crazy summer weather we are having, Perth is sweltering in 43 degrees, and Tasmania has had some good falls of snow. And Tassie is where our cold wind is coming from. We snuggle down and watch Love Actually….again. A nice change from visiting penitentiaries.
Accom: $38.00
*My Mother would turn in her grave if she knew that our pudding was a supermarket job zapped in the micro! And almost as good as those that used to hang for months behind the dining room door.

We are having a supermarket roast chicken tonight

We eat lots of Christmas puddings around Christmas and the New Year, individual ones by choice, as they take only 50 seconds in the microwave. I don’t hanker after “the old days” of stirring, mixing, and maturing!

Who would have thought that such a kerfuffle would become so easy?
