Yarram, Gippsland, Vic
Day 3 Monday 24/11/2025 Meeniyan to Yarram, 14 – 18 more drizzle
We hang around Meeniyan until 11:00am as there’s a 2:00pm check in time at the caravan park. There’s a cool wind blowing, usually this close to Xmas we’re gasping and complaining about the heat.
No sooner do we hit the road we are stopped by roadworks. We’ve got the CB turned on and we’re entertained by the chatter of the road crew…”it’s got the wheels of a f***in’ shopping trolley”. Sounds like something large and yellow might be hard to steer.
There are no breathtaking views of Wilson’s Promontory and the surrounding powder blue ocean today, just a wall of white cloud. And it drizzles all the way. It’s no wonder that Gippsland is so green they really do get the most consistent rain. And the cows, Queenslanders would cry at the sight of a hundred cows grazing happily in one small paddock. Up there they count acres per cow, not cows per acre.
The Yarram Holiday Park is in a pretty garden setting. The manager’s residence is a charming old home that may have a bit of history to it. It feels as though we are camped in their garden. Every site is bordered by plants, hedges or trees many being old varieties. Gosh, I’d love to nick a few cuttings. Channelling Nanna*, I’m sure she would have. There’s an indoor heated swimming pool, an indoor camp kitchen and a large log cabin style outdoor camp kitchen with generous heating to make it a pleasant place for happy hour.

While Woody walks, Toothless helps VeeWee erect the side awnings on her teardrop camper. The Angels arrive and we share a BBQ in the cosy outdoor camp kitchen.

Accom: $37.50, Towing Kms: 71Kms
*Nanna never let an interesting plant go ‘unsnipped’. In the blink of an eye, the dress would quickly be swept aside and the cuttings safely stowed in her stocking tops.
