A bunch of us drive over to Fisherman’s Landing cafe at Balgal Beach for lunch. As I’ve mentioned in an earlier post, the cafe is a few hundred metres from our caravan but it is a 14km drive away owing to the resident croc in the creek. The cafe is priceless and I doubt they’ve spent anything in maintenance on this place since Queen Elizabeth took the throne. It is a two storey place built of breeze blocks and overlooking the creek. Inside, the colourful tablecloths must have come from somebody’s grandma and two equally colourful ladies run the fryers. The view from the kitchen window is stunning. We choose to eat outside on the tired old wooden deck that comes with a view and free sand flies. We order beers that arrive in styro foam stubby holders labelled “Fisherman’s Landing” in Texta marker pen, marketing is not one of their strong points. Wine is on a help yourself basis from the cask in the fridge and poor Lizzie tries three dubious blends before reverting to beer.
Gee the mackerel is good. Would we come back?…Absolutely!
