Practically Suicidal

May 2015

The lighthouse on Vlamingh Head near Exmouth in WA is a concrete structure built in 1912. The view of the coast is splendid and there are six oil rigs clearly visible on the horizon. Barrow Island is somewhere out there beyond the horizon. Around the foot of the lighthouse there are story boards telling the colourful history of the area and one about the army having had a base here during World War Two. I read an actual soldier’s account of a near battle and get a shock to see his name, the soldier is the father of an old school friend.

    1. She lives 300kms away. We write a seriously long letter to each other at New Year of which i’m currently writing. However after seeing that plaque I rang her as soon as I got phone reception. Her Dad passed away a few months after my call.
