There is an impressive pier at Urangan, Qld on the Fraser Coast. Over 800 metres in length it stretches out across the sands to reach the deep water of Hervey Bay for this was once a cargo pier. To my mind walking the pier at low tide is an absolute treat. Wonderful ridged sand reaches out towards the horizon and this is an area that is world class when it comes to sand. Why’s that you ask? Because just offshore is Fraser Island the world’s largest sand island. Yes, the folks around here really know their sand.
