I know that I mention the Murray River a lot in these pages but with its tributaries the Darling, Culgoa, Balonne and Condamine, an impressive 2740kms makes it Australia’s longest waterway and the third longest navigable river in the world (the 15th longest river in the world). A lifeblood river of such length needs to be crossed, often and there are hundreds of bridges but the best fun of all is crossing by ferry and there are still plenty of ferry crossings in operation. The Cadel ferry crosses the Murray in South Australia’s Riverland. We held our breath squeezing two caravans onto it but the ferry master is an expert.
