June 2018, Ingham, Qld
A few minutes out of Ingham, Qld and hidden amongst sugar cane farms is a beautifully maintained cemetery but not your ordinary Aussie cemetery. This one has mausoleums (not common in Australia), large marble graves and enough Italian tiles to pave a mansion or two. Decorative ceramic flowers and crucifixes share a backdrop of sugar cane, a cattle yard and in the distance the sugar mill. The very reason why these people settled in this area in the first place.
Surprisingly we had parked our car near a grave marked with the same name as our own relatives.
