Mulambin Mumblings – Ageing emus & breakdowns

Aug 2019, Mulambin, Capricorn Coast, Qld

We wake to a glorious morning and very bright sunshine. It’s funny how moving about through many climate zones still surprises us and here it is decidedly warmer…and glaringly brighter.

The painkillers gave me a good nights’ sleep but I was reluctant to get up when Woody wanted to wash the sheets. See, the housework never stops. Is it any wonder that I rarely iron when we’re on the road?

Today we hear from the Prado’s, they made it to Darwin, headed east to Cairns and now …they broke a leaf spring on the caravan when turning a corner up in Ingham, Qld leaving a nasty chunk of metal on the roadway. The RACQ loaded up the van and took it down to Townsville for repair and covered their costs for a cabin at Rollingstone for the night. Only last week some other mate’s fell for the old trick of putting petrol in their diesel tank. Their RACV insurance paid for a couple of nights in a caravan park while their car was repaired. Like our breakdown in South Australia in June and subsequent transport home these are yet more examples of the peace of mind for members of RACV Total Care insurance.

The staff in our caravan park (NRMA Capricorn Yeppoon Holiday Park) tell us that the resident emu is ageing and doesn’t visit the park as much as she used to. They leave food in the bush for her where they know that she’ll find it. We really miss her visits.
