Day 30 Friday 10/7/20 Alstonville to Evans Head, sunny 21
The Queensland border will open today at noon. The QLD Premier is on TV declaring that NO Victorians will be allowed in, yet announcers are stating that it will be open to Grey Nomads who’ve been on the road more than two weeks. We’re almost glad that we’re heading south away from this madness.
We pack up leisurely after VeeWee finds her lost keys on the key hook and take the A1 south to Evans Head.
We can’t check in until after 11:00am so a walk around town and a visit to the fish co-op is in order. It’s 7 years since we were last here and the town has grown.
When we return to the caravan park a row of vans are queued up on the roadway. It is a shemozzle as wives from rear vans are jumping the queue by walking up to the office on foot but then unable to enter the park because of the vans in front of them blocking the way. It is a huge park with around 800 sites. Eventually with our bundles of receipts proving that we’re ‘clean’, we check in.
After lunch and settled in we walk to the beach and are enticed by the weekly farmer’s market in the Surf Club car park. The freshest of produce just begs to be bought and we do a good job buying butter lettuce, tomatoes, pumpkin, pecan pies and doughnuts.
Disregarding the fridge brimming with food we nip over to the fish co-op for crumbed whiting and chips for dinner. Not bad, not bad at all.
Woody chats to a chap from South Australia who will now have to quarantine for two weeks in Port Augusta after he crosses the border into SA.
Our friends R & T in Tweed Heads have delayed their border attempt awaiting their friend’s success or not.
Double or Nuthin’ & Shirley’s friends cross into Queensland without problems. So, Victorians who have been in NSW for two weeks or more can enter QLD! You can imagine how we’re feeling about the Queensland government.
