Day 115 Saturday 3/10/20 Grenfell, hot 26
A lazy day with a bit of hand washing to stay in front for the next few days if we free camp. The boys return to the Vietnamese bakery for lunch (they’re missing Melbourne food).
It’s a long weekend in NSW and in the afternoon the vans start rolling in. Two happily park right beside us. So close that we can look out the window and see what they’re cooking, if we haven’t already guessed by the aroma. There’s about an acre of free space at either end of the park, quiet and empty, free space. Once more we shake our heads in wonder.
Woody buys party pies and El Prado mounts the TV on the outside socket and we sit outside their van to watch the first elimination final of the AFL. Bulldogs vs Saints. El Prado and Woody’s teams. It’s a little surreal. We’d usually be watching this match at home in September and it would be played at Melbourne’s MCG. Instead in this Covid year it’s October, it’s being played at the Gabba in Brisbane. It’s hot and one of those Spring days where a million insects are buzzing with joy in the last rays of a setting sun. Behind us Apostle birds stomp back and forth muttering to themselves or perhaps giving us a piece of their minds. And the winners? The Saints!

The Oddfellows could certainly do with a paint job. It’s a very stylish building.
