Nicking off to Nicholson – Day 10 – Home via Bunyip & Koo Wee Rup

Day 10 Saturday 18/2/2023 Nicholson, Cool cloudy, 22˚

Although it didn’t rain much and was a warm night everything looks bright green and washed clean. How nice it is to stand under the shower and hear the distinctive call of black cockatoos overhead. After farewells, we hit the road. The Saturday traffic is light. We stop for a pie at Rosedale and a very good coffee at Walter’s. Must remember that one.

Rather than get caught up in the traffic snarls and roadworks around Berwick and Cranbourne like we did on our way down, we turn off at Drouin. It’s a picturesque amble through dairying country and the small towns of Longwarry, Bunyip, Garfield and Tynong to Koo Wee Rup where we pick up the South Gippsland Highway and return home through Tooradin. We do notice that the train lines and stations are being upgraded through here things won’t remain quiet for much longer. Bunyip is a pretty spot with a few shops perched on a steep slope. One would need to be fit or a bit of a mountain goat.
