Yackety Yack, Day 29 – Uki Notes

Day 29 Tuesday Murwillumbah, 13 – 20 cloudy with sprinkles

We have a warm night at last and we girls have a slow start to the day. Woody on the other hand walks into town and has a haircut at 7:00am. We must be back in civilisation. He returns with brown paper bags of goodies, pastries from Ben’s Patisserie. We girls pop into the supermarket for a quick shop before Elle is due to meet up with an ex-pupil of El Prado’s.

The view from our awning, there’s plenty of elbow room and we can watch the sugar grow.

In the afternoon we take a leisurely drive upriver to Uki. Part of the road is still barricaded from last year’s floods. Uki is a quaint village below Mt Warning with a backdrop of rainforest and somewhat of a hippy element. As we moan and groan and heave ourselves out of the car, we can hear a piano being played in the park. We chat with the lady who runs the woodworking shop where we bought some pieces last year, their products are of superb quality.

Not in need of coffee or hemp products, it’s back to Murwillumbah where we mosey about the shops and the M’arts Centre which is a creative space of individual container studios and shops.

During happy hour we plan the next leg of the trip. Dinner is a warming and slurpy laksa. Yeah, it turned out alright.
