Flinders Ranges – Back to the big smoke

Day 13 Friday 23/8/2024 Horsham to Melbourne, cloudy

We set off very early as we want to get through the city at the best time. Crimson clouds are lightening the sky. I hope we haven’t woken the girls up. We grab fuel at Stawell and at Ararat we call into the bakery for a breakfast bacon and egg roll before bumping off down the Western Highway towards home.

Fuel: $98.62 Towing Kms: 343Kms

Trip Summary

13 Days, 12 Nights

Accom: $293.00

Fuel: $622.13

Total Kms: 2564Kms

Highlights

  1. Without a doubt the quality of South Australian roads compared to those in the eastern states.
  2. For me Wilpena Homestead.
  3. Quorn, I only wish we’d taken the Pichi Richi railway trip.
  4. The weather and light conditions didn’t do the Flinders Ranges justice and as it turned out we wouldn’t have had enough time to spend exploring further north in any case.
