Yarck to Yack – Eating off old clothes & waving to astronauts

Yackandandah, Vic

Day 7 Friday 11/10/2024 Yackandandah, 8 – 23 warm sunny

Once more we wake to a perfect morning. Woody walks up to the Happy Baker arriving on the dot of opening time of 7:00am and returns with a selection of delightful French pastries. You just can’t beat sitting in the sun munching flaky almond croissants and plump sultana filled escargot, even better than feeding ducks. We laze about the camp and take short walks into town. I spot a tradie working on the roof of the collectable shop. He’s pulling buckets of goo up to the roof on a rope and trowelling it on to the facia. It’s a sight no self-respecting urban sketcher could resist.

The afternoon flies as we watch the caravans roll in. You see The Pigs are playing tomorrow tonight at The Star Hotel and the park is booked out. Who are The Pigs? Well, we didn’t know either, but they’re a hillbilly band on their 20th anniversary tour. There ya go, we’ve missed 20 years of The Pigs. Anyway, we buy a barrow load of wood from mine host Gavin and light a fire in one of the pits provided. It’s a beauty that we wouldn’t mind taking home if only it was portable. You see it’s made from a beer keg mounted on a plough disc and it produces a warm smokeless fire. Dinner is a BBQ beside the fire and it seems that Mrs Doubtfire’s elegant sequined tablecloth is actually a repurposed sarong. Just don’t dwell on that thought too long.  We sit around the fire until 9:00pm and waving to the stranded astronauts as they zip overhead in the International Space Station.
