Day 7 Saturday 21/12/2024 Buronga, 15 – 31 smoky
What’s that orange cast to the light? Smoke? Oh, here we go again, another burning summer. There are 3 fires out of control in Victoria and a gentle southerly is bringing the smoke up from The Grampians / Gariwerd fire.
Woody arrives back from a long walk around town and after breakfast we drive around the riverside parks where a Xmas market is in full swing. Following the river, we find Apex Beach and Rio Vista the home of W.B. Chaffey. In 1886 the Canadian Chaffey Brothers built the first irrigation scheme in Australia based upon the successful scheme they had created in California. Hence the numerically numbered streets in Mildura.
In search of lightweight shorts that are cooler than denim and longer to cover my fat knees. I give up. It seems that I have 2 options, short shorts or lycra that would look like a bunch of balloons. There is however a third option, wait for Aldi to have some practical, yet less attractive shorts in the centre aisle.
We grab some very good Banh Mi for lunch and when the smoke clears we walk the park tracks.
Dinner is Lamb Kofta.
Accom: $32.00

One of my favourite Victorian towns, and I love it even more if you can get good Bahn Mi!

A quick initial look had me seeing those old bridge supports as raised planters!

Oh my, our stars must be aligned, regarding fruitless long searches in the heat for lightweight shorts. Frustrated with searching I bought a pair which I have been trying to pass on ever since. Happy travelling!
