Mansfield, Vic
Day 4 Thursday 13/2/2025 Mansfield, overcast humid 19 – 34
Yesterday T treated himself to a new shirt at Kmart for $1!. Today everyone was rushing up there to find bargains. Woody came back with 2 T shirts, 3 of the girls bought sandals and Woody tells me that they’ve got the long shorts I’ve been looking for, I’m excited until I discover that he was in the children’s section. Mrs. Doubtfire was thrilled because 2 shirts and a pair of sandals were cheaper than the baguette she had bought for lunch. It doesn’t take much to amuse us.

We pop across the road to the Mansfield Hotel for the $21 senior’s lunch and today I’m the winner with the Poke Bowl. The Cabin Crew have been raving about the interesting and helpful lady at the info centre, so M and I drop in. There’s a large felt wall hanging that has been created by local crafters. Outside a group of totem poles symbolise the regions ‘attributes’ Bogong moths, Ned Kelly, skis. The old railway station has been restored as it is now the start or maybe the end of the Rail Trail. Out the back in the paddock we find an old wooden portable lock up and a brick structure that resembles some sort of kiln. We return to ask about the kiln thingy and are informed that it’s for burning wood chips. That’s it…I guess our timing was out.

Because we’ve been stuffing ourselves for 24 hours, we decide to just have finger food for dinner in the camp kitchen. Toothless BBQ’s dim sims on the hotplate, the bridesmaid does buffalo wings, and Woody cooks calamari and prawns in the air fryer. Gee, I’m so glad we kept it light.
The long-awaited rain finally arrives at 8:30 and gosh they need it up here. The ground is rock hard.
Accom: $40.00

Very tempting bargains

The look of the lockup would certainly keep me on the straight and narrow!

That’s the third one of those I’ve come across. One wonders if they were carted around the countryside on wagons, like we move portable toilets to events these days.

They probably smell the same!

I can see why you were racing off for bargains, when the wooden lockup and kiln were the town’s main delights. I do hope you didn’t buy the child’s size shorts, even if they were cheap. I must have caught the bug, as I got myself a dress on special today.

No, still looking for long shorts or short longs.

I’ve also been looking for ‘just the right’ length shorts for years now. Most look hilarious on me.

We’re not supposed to be active, it seems. Perhaps a placard waving, swimsuit wearing, seniors protest against the clothing industry is in order.

I’ve long thought this kind of action is in order!
