Day 35 Friday 18/7/2025 Darlington Beach, cold windy 12 – 17
We had a wonderful thunderstorm last night. There were lots of rumbles and booms and a good shower of rain. Our thunderstorms in Melbourne are much tamer than these.
With the school holidays coming to an end most of the families have gone home. And without the attention and fuss we had 2 kangaroos at the door this morning. We spend most of the morning in doors before taking a drive through the neighbouring towns of Corindi Beach, Safety Beach and Arrawarra. All share this arc of beach. Safety Beach also has a smaller beach around the point that faces south to Woolgoolga where I find a nice piece of coral for the garden.

Back at camp rainbow lorikeets are becoming cheeky and swinging from the awning arm. At the beach the last rays of the sun catch the surf, crested terns are dive-bombing for fish, and yellow tailed black cockatoos call. The colourful stones on this beach are usually about the size of a coin. Their colours when wet, are surprising. Yellow, brick red, green, black, grey sometimes closer to blue and pure white. Some are marbled and some veined.
Dinner tonight is a barbie, steak and sausages with an affogato to follow. I hope the coffee doesn’t keep us awake.
Accom: $47.00

Those lorikeets have more than their fair share of colour, and the rocks rock!

They are the most flamboyant birds, all colour, personality and raucous noise. Glad you like the rocks. I was once stopped at an airport x ray, “Are they rocks in your bag?” Said the attendant. “My husband says I’ve got rocks in my head too.” I replied. They have no humour those security people.

Jack is a rock nerd, he would love fossicking along those beaches. Are the stones on all those beaches?

Those were from Darlington Beach, but another good one is Sawtell where Bonville Creek meets the beach.
