An amble through Victoria’s Goldfields region.
Day 4 Saturday 11/10/2025 Newstead, sun & cloud, warm 10 – 19
We have a totally lazy morning. Woody walks into town for bread. We sit about reading the paper paper and yacking.
After lunch Toothless who is unhitched (not unhinged) drives us all into Castlemaine for a walk around. The Mill is an old woollen mill in the heart of town that has been transformed into a large arts complex of studios, 2nd hand collectables / castoffs, the Shedshaker brewery, Das Kaffehaus restaurant, a wine bar, smokehouse butchery, bakery, chocolatier, cheesery and more. We wander and wonder with a sea of other curious people at this glorious cacophony of stuff packed into a big red box of bricks and rusting metal.

By gee, we’ve got a good-looking flock of sheep in the paddock beside us.

That looks like a very good repurpose of the old mill buildings!
