Old Gold – Technicolour Yawning

An amble through Victoria’s Goldfields region.

Day 6 Monday 13/10/2025 Tarnagulla to Home

After another bad night I’m on all fours on the floor in pain. As we’re not all that far away, we decide to head for home.

With the caravan still hitched on, Woody packs up quickly and we have a good run through the city. Woody drops me at our local hospital emergency entrance and goes off to find somewhere to park the car and van. The waiting room is chockers and looks like the walking wounded. Vomiting seems to be the ailment of the day, and sick bags are being passed around like lollies. After clutching my gut for two hours and watching everyone else violently chucking, the patients either side of me mention that they’ve been waiting for 12 hours! If I feel like I’m on death’s door, but they’re at the pearly gates waiting for St. Peter to tick them off his list! A more sensible decision is called for, I get an appointment at my local clinic for tomorrow and we head home for some much-needed sleep, but not before I’m also heaving. What did that nurse say? “Come back if you vomit again.” No way, just give me my bed.

  1. So sorry to hear of your episode. We’ve visited a couple of outback hospital EDs on our travels this trip but thankfully, and surprisingly, the more remote the hospital better the service. Hope you’re all better now.
