Capricorn Coast, Qld
Mulambin Beach, a place for solitude, a place for wandering and clearing the noise from your head. Just walk from one end to the other then play in the shallows on your way back.

Tiny but industrious, sand bubbler crabs make this beach look a strange brown colour. These little sand-coloured crabs are shy and difficult to see but their artwork is incredible. As soon as the tide recedes, they start rolling perfect orbs of sand into intricate patterns as they gain nutrients from even smaller sand dwellers.

Mulambin’s flatness creates an optical illusion and a whole morning, or afternoon can easily be lost wandering from one end to the other and returning with the realisation that it is indeed a very long beach. It’s no wonder that this is a perfect beach for land sailing.

*Note the thongs, we Victorians always wear our footwear on the beach. Those from the northern states prefer to leave them at the entrance and go barefoot.

Those sand bubbles crabs are fantastic artists. They are plentiful on 4 Mile Beach in Port Douglas. We took lots of arty shots of them when we visited a couple of years back.
