On the Road Again – Shooting the Breeze

Day 45 Wednesday 22/7/2026 Mulambin, sea mist 16 – 22

The Bridesmaid and I take a walk along Mulambin Beach and notice a woman perched on some driftwood, sure enough she’s sketching the bay, and a fine view it is.

We have lunch at the new Keppel Bay Sailing Club. We are lucky to score a window table overlooking the beach, bay and islands. Once more we sign up for a yearly club membership because the $2 cost gives us much more than that in discounts today alone. The red emperor with a lime pepper crust is delicious and the conversation is lively. Gosh, laughing can be exhausting.

After lunch we take a drive around Cooee Bay and at Wreck Point* a paraglider looms in front of the car. We bound out the doors and are treated to an aerobatic display as he floats on the thermals.

No trip to Yeppoon is complete without a drive to Lammermoor’s highest point Oceana Cres and Buccaneer Ave where houses hang from the hillside like that friendly paraglider.

After Happy hour we all agree that we don’t have room for dinner.

Accom: $56.00

*Wreck Point is an interesting spot. Named for a ship having been wrecked here, but it’s the voyage that is the intriguing part. In July of 1848 the schooner Selina left Brisbane with a load of timber for Sydney. She never arrived. She foundered near Wreck Point in October of the same year and it is believed that the currents would have carried the dismasted and now crewless vessel across the Tasman to New Zealand then back in a north westerly direction to Yeppoon.
