On the Road Again – Who Turned the Lights Off?

Day 46 Thursday 23/7/2026 Mulambin, warm 14 – 21

Even before my first coffee, The Bridesmaid and I walk Mulambin. Beach. It’s low tide, which means we can tromp around the rocks to Causeway Lake, before returning through the housing estates to our park. It’s a delightful walk and a perfect temperature. A few turkeys skitter about between the houses and the bushland. They always look like they’re hellbent on doing something, something that they can no longer remember.

Lunch is a bachelor’s handbag (BBQ chicken) sandwich, a quick rest and we’re off to tour Tanby Point, Emu Park and Zilzie.

We forgo happy hour, and pop into Kinka Kippa to pick up fish n chips. We order Sweet Lip, a reef fish and ask the owner what it’s like “Fresh” he says. Cheeky bugger. Off to Emu Park we go to eat our dinner in the park while we wait for darkness to fall and the ANZAC memorial to light up. We’ve told The BM how beautiful it is. Shirley Temple grapples with her grilled fish as it looks limp and grey in its white styrene box. To make matters worse we all rave about the fried version.

And the memorial? It didn’t light up. We later found out that they only turn the lights on for ANZAC Day now.
