On the Road Again – Fowl Fun with Boats

Day 52 Wednesday 29/7/2026, Mulambin 15 – 24

It’s our 54th wedding anniversary. We’ve been invited over to C & W’s place for morning tea and to see their new Caraboat. Since we were last up here, they’ve moved a little closer to town to an area known as Woodbury. It’s about a half hour north east of Yeppoon past houses tucked in amongst the tropical vegetation. There are mango orchards, bananas and dragon fruit. They have 2 acres of lawns that are peppered with tall gums. Behind the house Wayne has been busy upgrading the sheds, adding accommodation for guests. And on the veranda, a spa beside a fridge with beer on tap. Queenslanders live on their verandas.

The Caraboat looks brand new even though it is 5 years old. It’s roomy enough to use as a caravan but with twin outboards, and a rooftop sundeck. Inside the bed converts to seating, there’s a galley, a bathroom capsule with compostable toilet, even an awning outside for when they are camping on land.

We have tea on the front veranda while watching the Guinea fowls peck about on the lawn. Of an evening they’ve counted up to a hundred wallabies blissfully mowing the lawns for them.

We celebrate our anniversary at Waterline Cafe at the Rosslyn Bay Marina, while enjoying Massaman Beef Ribs grown out at Banana Station west of Rocky. (The Banana region was named after a yellow bull called …yep, Banana) It’s so nice to sit here and watch the boats.

Dinner is minimal.
