It’s a long way to the top, Day 31 – Market day

Day 31 Sunday July 6th 2014 Port Douglas

Sunday in Port Douglas is market day and it’s always a good one, colourful and spread out along the foreshore under the palms. Today is no exception. We buy fresh red paw paws and local passionfruit that are big and sweet and spurting with juice. We buy fresh prawns from the trawler at the marina and devour them on the terrace at T & C’s hotel overlooking the beach.

In the evening we walk down to our favourite restaurant, Salsa for dinner. Afterwards enjoying more great music at The Courty (Courthouse Hotel). On our way back up Macrossan Street we find more music at The Central Hotel, what a bonus and all for the cost of a beer.

OK, so I didn’t photograph the market, but here’s the iconic church beside it. St. Mary’s by the Sea is said to be the most popular in the country for weddings and the view of the ocean behind the altar is heavenly.
