Day 30 Saturday July 5th 2014 Port Douglas
We have a delightfully lazy morning reading the Saturday papers before drifting down to Cairns. Cairns is about 70Kms to the south. Large birds called Orange Footed Bush Hens scratch around our camp. We have new neighbours in a large camper ute that is wider than the site that they are on. While we chat Pete starts hacking at the shrubbery, our pretty little dividing garden, and small palms are dug up and despatched to the rubbish bin so that more guy ropes can be pegged in. Hmmm.
Woody shops in Cairns while I visit the Cairns Ukulele Festival in Fogarty Park on the foreshore. What a pleasant surprise to find that it was on while we’re here. This is the second best Uke Fest in the country and the talent is inspiring.
At 6:00pm we pick up our mates T & C at the airport. On the return drive to Port Douglas the car’s battery light keeps blinking on and off and we’re all a little nervous as there is nowhere to pull over on the winding coast road. We have a late dinner at Cel Bibo restaurant on Macrossan Street.

We’ve had some negative experiences with those large camper trailers encroaching into our sites in caravan parks.

By the time they’ve unfolded and pegged, opened all the drawers and put a fly over the lot there’s something resembling a Bedouin tent!

I’m feeling quite cross about your neighbour. I thought loving the great outdoors meant loving the stuff that grows there too!

So did we, at least tropical vegetation grows super fast!😱

Love the crazy ukelele festival ,what fun, but not impressed with Pete at all. No need to kill any vegetation.
