Somewhere to Rochester – Colbo

Day 10 Tuesday 26/11/2024 Rochester, warm 17 – 29

It’s another pleasant morning for wandering about and chatting. Oh, how we miss that when it rains.

Reg and The Clippie drive into Echuca to see what’s going on, while the rest of us drive down to Colbinabbin ostensibly to see the silos. With the ‘Bridesmaid’ in the back and far too much chatter going on we miss our turn off and end up doing a longish tour of the district, but it doesn’t matter the wheat looks superb and the sheep are cute. By the time we arrive in Colbo there’s a group of anxious grey nomads in front of the silos trying to ring us and cursing us for leaving our CB behind in the caravan!

Colbo is a small town, a pub, a general store and a hardware joint, but at least the grain silos are still operational. The six silos here were painted by Tim Bowtell and to my mind they are among the best we’ve seen and they’re right behind the pub! As we walk across to the pub’s back door Woody steps on an ant nest and quickly hot foots it into the beer garden to hose the little nippers off.

Now that’s big!

Lunch is exceptionally good, and we can vouch for the spicy pork ribs with chipotle sauce. They’re doing a good trade here for a Tuesday, and the waitress is a jack of all trades.

Returning via the correct roads we pass through hectares of vineyards and Lake Cooper a popular water ski spot. Happy hour is spent on the lawns and a warm afternoon becomes a mild evening. Light snacks are all that we can manage, dim sims, quiche and garlic bread.

Accom: $40.15
