Somewhere to Rochester – Slip Sliding Away

Day 12 Thursday 28/11/2024 Rochester to Home

We’re greeted with a bright sunny morning, no rain, and no humidity. We say our goodbyes and hit the road south through the Heathcote vineyards. There are several large dead kangaroos on the road. From Heathcote we take the Redesdale Road crossing the old iron bridge again.

Redesdale Bridge

At Kyneton we stop to stretch our legs and to Woody’s pleasure finally visit the Grist Bakery but not before visiting the public toilets opposite. And I must say that there’s a lot to be said for using our own toilet on the caravan, because…I push open the door of the public toilet take two steps and find myself lying flat on my back in 10cms of water and staring at the ceiling. Springing back up with the speed of a 2 year old, I’m thankful for my backpack for cushioning the landing and for not containing my beloved Nikon.

Dripping from head to sneakers and feeling a little shocked, I nod as Woody buys 2 curry pies for morning tea and insists that almond croissants should never be shared. Back at the car I climb into the caravan and change into dry clothes. The car seat heating is soothing, and I settle back to enjoy my coffee. Oh bugger, the coffee cup just leaked all down my clean white T shirt.

Note: And those croissants…I weighed one when we got home, 436gms. I thought croissants were meant to be light, it must be the almonds.
