A Cool Coast – The Holy Grail

Day 23 Sunday 6/7/2025 Wooli, Sunny 13 – 22

The internet here is a bit patchy and I really should use the park wifi, but I spend the morning sorting photos and getting a blog post up. You know how it is.

This afternoon Woody walks to the centre of town while I walk to the beach. The park is emptying out again and it’s good to see the last of the family who had been in the cabin beside us. They must have been crowded in as several times a day they would drag the furniture back and forth across the floor.

Now for an update on our TV saga. It has stopped working on 240 volt, but the 12 volt cable is loose and the antenna box is a bit wobbly. Whenever we get a signal, we must tip toe about like fairies for fear of losing it again. The signal and our patience.

Accom: $29.00

Day 24 Monday 7/7/2025 Wooli, sunny 11 – 19

A trip into JayCar electronics in Grafton is a necessity if we want to get this TV working. A bit of grocery shopping at Aldi wouldn’t go astray either and a lick of petrol. Grafton is the Holy Grail isn’t it?

While in town we grab another Banh Mi from Prince Bakery and munch them down by the Clarence River. The car is awash with crunchy crumbs and our clothes spotted with chilli sauce, we must look a mess.

Back at camp it’s time to clean ourselves, and the caravan. We get the TV working but we’re not game to turn it off now.

With palates in Asian mode dinner is a bowlful of Gyoza’s.

Accom: $29.00, Fuel: $23.48

Whoops we forgot to clean the crumbs out of the car! I reckon we should leave the doors open for the Brush Turkeys.

And another Wooli Wooli River sunset

Footnote: I should explain what a Swag is to non-campers. Firstly, I’m not an expert, I haven’t slept in one. But they are a canvas bed and tent combined. They come in singles or doubles and I’m told they are very cosy. The whole thing rolls up into a small bundle that is easily stowed. Great for young blokes in the bush or outback. They’re also popular with families as the parents can sleep in the caravan (in peace) while each of the kids has their own swag outside under the awning. The name harks back to the days when itinerant workers, swagmen, swaggies, would travel the roads with a swag on their back. As in the unofficial National anthem Waltzing Matilda, by Banjo Paterson – ‘Once a Jolly Swagman camped by a billabong…’
