A Cool Coast – Sunsets & an SOS

Day 25 Tuesday 8/7/2025 Wooli, overcast cool 9 – 20

It’s a cool morning but we’ve already decided to have a lazy day. The clouds keep things a little nippy.

After lunch we walk and I sketch down on the riverbank and at The 383 café as it is closed today. The park is about a third full. We are blessed with yet another beautiful sunset. We take advantage of the BBQ’s in the camp kitchen and cook hamburgers. Real burgers, think bacon, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, beetroot and dribbling gooey egg.

Day 26 Wednesday 9/7/2025 Wooli, overcast 20

It’s another nippy morning as we drive around Lake Hiawatha to Minnie Water (sorry there’s no Running Bear nor White Dove). Minnie Water is even smaller than Wooli. Nestled in a curve of the Yuraygir National Park and overlooking an inviting small beach there’s a general store, two small groups of houses and that’s about it. The sort of paradise that they would make a TV series about if it wasn’t so far from the city. It’s a delightful little spot.

It’s Raffle night down at the Bowlo so we decide to have another crack at a prize. As we drive out of our site there’s a loud bang and it doesn’t take us much to realise that the Brass Monkey fridge in the back of the car is still connected to the caravan, or should I say it has smartly detached itself leaving the power cable stretched into two pieces. Oops. With no luck at the Bowls club we head home and retreat to the van, it’s icy out.

A little stretched

At 9:38pm (Woody’s in bed snoring quietly) we receive a text message from the Wooli community asking us to be on the lookout for a 19 year old surfer named Darcy who hasn’t returned from the beach this afternoon. And, if anyone who has a drone or a boat could they lend assistance. Of course, the underlying fear is that of shark attack as a young surfer was taken here a few years ago.
