Rollingstone, Qld
The drive north of Townsville is peppered with magic little beachside freedom camps but to my mind, the best place to just kick back and go troppo is the Rollingstone Beachfront Resort. With lake sites and beach view sites this huge park has a good pool and a licensed café.

That’s a croc warning sign, and it’s a sure sign that we’re in the tropics.
Some folks complain that Rollingstone is too far from anywhere, being halfway between Townsville and Ingham, but that’s why we love the place. Whenever we’ve had long stays here, we’ve only toured on alternate days and then we swap between Townsville and Ingham (50Kms either way) and sometimes into the creeks and lagoons of the tropical hinterland. There’s so much to see in this area.

Pineapples, on your way in you’ll pass the Rollingstone Pineapple Farm, sweet and not acidic they are delicious.

Such a scenic spot

Hmm, croc’s, not the nicest of beach neighbors. Hope they keep their distance.

The crocs write the rules, like ‘keep your distance’ and ‘ I don’t bite, I eat’.

We had a terrific stay at that park too and met some lovely fellow travellers. The cafe / bar area is a great place for mingling.

Yes, it’s a lovely spot but becoming a bit expensive. Because we travel with our little dog Mel we’ve been allocated sites up the back which is actually good because you’re right next to the beach. Cheers
