On the Road Again – Stocking Up

Day 25 Thursday 2/7/2026 Kenilworth, warm 13 – 23 sunny

Today we drive down the hill to Nambour to do some shopping. It’s always a deja vu experience to be in the Nambour Yandina area as my parents lived here many decades ago, long before the population boom. If you look closely, you can still see the cane train tracks running down the centre of Howard Street, where once little cane trains would stop traffic as they rumbled down the Main Street to the sugar mill leaving billets of cane rolling into the gutters. A visit to Aldi, and a fruit barn (QLD has great fruit barns), and I dash into Specsavers for a new pair of clip-on sunglasses, no doubt I’ll find the old pair in the car when we eventually get home.

The afternoon is relaxing. Reading, walking and chatting with our new neighbours. They tell us that a doctor friend of theirs has taken up caravanning. He was heard telling a lay preacher; that the world would be a better place if everyone lived like they were in a caravan park – all on the one level and all chatting. Though they live in Central Victoria our neighbour is a descendant of James Davey, an early settler on the Mornington Peninsula for which Davey’s Bay is named.
