Day 34 Saturday 11/7/2026 Lake Monduran to Mulambin, sunny 9 – 24

You may recall that last night G next door offered to remove the wheels of a neighbouring caravan that he suspected had a problem. Well, as we’re packing up ‘the guy who never speaks’ quickly hitches up and leaves. I guess he didn’t want his wheels removed.

Inland Queensland is stunning in the early morning, chilly, blue mountains in the distance, paddocks of yellow grass, tall gums with smooth grey trunks (Moreton Bay Ash), and those tall, thick roadside grasses. It’s a pleasant drive with most of the traffic going south.

We arrive at Capricorn Palms, Mulambin on the Capricorn Coast at 1:15 after a 4 hour drive. Once we’re all set up for a longer stay, we take a walk around the caravan park and down to the beach. It’s dusk and it’s good to be back.

The park has a new resident too, Kermi the green tree frog lives somewhere between the two halves of the amenities block and comes out at night to check on the insect population. It’s a real treat for the kids staying here.

Dinner is beef koftas with rice, hummus, bbq’d mushrooms and capsicums. It’s a mild evening, so we eat outside by lamplight.

The new clip-on sunglasses that I bought in Nambour have turned suicidal and keep leaping from my face. To prevent them from falling I’ve put a rubber band around them, this is starting to be a problem and not a great look either. Who’s the old duck with the rubber band between her eyes? That must be me!
