On the Road Again – Settling Back In

Days 36 – 39, 13th – 16/7/2026 Mulambin, weather in the low 20’s

Settling back into life in the tropics, we have long walks on the beaches and check out the rebuilt Keppel Bay Sailing Club. We meet a neighbour who was a hairdresser in the Ballarat mental asylum and Ararat’s J Ward gaol, the one for the criminally insane that we visited last Xmas. She tells us how much she loved that job.

Woody has a milestone birthday and I’m unable to cook his favourite birthday dish Lup Yuk, as I forgot to shop for the ingredients before we left home. We have a fruitless search in Rockhampton. The menu is quickly switched from dried pork to Spicy Chicken, with a special fried rice of course. While we’re in the city we look for a replacement camp chair as one of ours has just about given up the ghost. We too, give up and order one online. Woody is thrilled because the horse and pony he used to feed are still in the paddock around the corner. Carrots will be on the shopping list now.

Double or Nuthin’ and Shirley Temple roll in from their school holiday child minding duties. They look a little, how can I say it, stuffed.
