On the Road Again – What a Beautiful Duck

Day 61 Friday 7/8/2026, overcast 17 – 20

Woody goes off to pathology for another blood test. This is the guy that we call ‘the jet skiing Irish fisherman pathologist’. Because, well he’s Irish and when he’s not extracting bodily fluids he loves fishing from his jetski. Woody complained about receiving a bruise last time he was here and the cheeky pathologist replied with “boo hoo”.

This afternoon we have a visit from a flock of a dozen Plumed Whistling ducks. They are such gorgeous birds with plumage in shades of brown with cream upswept wings. Apart from their looks, they don’t quack, they whistle, now that is unsettling.

I have a bracing walk on the beach.

Our neighbours are from Sydney and they join us for a lively happy hour.

Dinner is pork steaks and salad.

The bird tally for here is:

Curlews, plovers, whistling ducks, blue face honeyeaters, butcher birds, osprey, Brahmini kite, magpies, red tailed black cockatoos, Australian fig birds, seagulls, crested terns, oyster catchers, dotterels, brush turkeys, ibis.
