Newbridge Recreation Reserve

In the goldfields region of Victoria and on the banks of the Loddon River this pleasant spot has fire pits and there are amenities in the adjacent sporting complex. It’s only a hop, skip and a jump to the General Store and the popular Newbridge Hotel where tokens can be obtained for the amenities block.

This area is popular with fishermen, there’s gold prospecting, boating on the lake at Laanecoorie and the city of Bendigo is only a short drive away. If you visit in early spring the paddocks glow a vibrant fluoro yellow with canola.

    1. Close to Bendigo for city exploring, love that place. A great area for short drives to tiny old gold towns like Tarnagulla. Check out the beautiful ruined church. The Great Stupa under construction is worth a look and enormous. Prattys Patch is a curiosity pub with an unusual history, haven’t eaten there but the beer is cold. Friends of ours have a farm nearby so we love exploring this area. Have fun.

      1. Ooh that sounds good. Will have to keep it in mind for next time. Thought we might head up to Warburtons Bridge which is part of the Castlemaine heritage area. Have you been up that way?

      2. Yes, a really nice little camp spot and you can get near the creek down at the back. Vaughan Springs and Irishtown are worth a look. The Railway Hotel in Castlemaine is fabulous for atmosphere. The one at Chewton has live music on Sunday!!. The one at Guildford is nice too.
