Day 2, Saturday 4^th May 2013, Glen Cromie

Once we have the camp in order, we drive along the ridge to Neerim South for a bite to eat at the bakery, before dropping down into the valley to the hamlet of Noojee to see the old railway trestle bridge and the renowned Toolshed Bar. The ridge in autumn is picture-perfect, the leaves are turning and the rolling green hills are dotted with cows.

The Toolshed Bar has been created in an old farm shed and is now a curiosity pub with loads of paraphernalia hanging from the walls and the ceiling. It’s a crisp clear day so a warming stout by the fire goes down a treat.

We venture out of town to see The Poplars free camp, true to its name the poplars are turning golden yellow, and the little creek is bubbling along. While we’re here we can’t miss popping into the Noojee pub as we’ve heard that it is under new management and yes, it is much improved.

We head back to camp and light a fire in the park supplied brazier, it has tall legs and thankfully does a good job on this chilly night.  We throw a couple of steaks on the BBQ and enjoy a few reds.

2022 Note: Obviously, the warming stout when down very well as the photos that I took of the Toolshed Bar were blurry!
