The Places We Love – Elliott Heads

Elliott Heads, The Bundy Coast, Qld

There are some popular places along this coast. The one that had us intrigued though was Elliott Heads. From a commercial perspective there’s not a lot here but for someone like me who loves poking about the shallows it is a delight. At low tide it’s an easy stroll across the sand to Dr May’s Island at the mouth of the Elliott River. This area is a protected bird breeding ground when shorebirds migrate from the northern hemisphere. Heaven knows how they have the energy after flying down from Siberia.

Elliott Heads is only a 15minute drive from Bundaberg through, market gardens, macadamia orchards, and strawberry farms. Queenslanders grow sensational strawberries and in this area you won’t have to look hard to find strawberries with ice cream and crepes.

A few k’s further north, Mon Repos Beach is now known for its Turtle research centre.
