On the Road Again – An Overweight Whippet

Day 53 Thursday 30/7/2026 Mulambin, sunny 14 – 22

Fuel prices have risen again. We have a quiet day, Woody walks while I clean. In the afternoon we drive down to Tanby Beach. Woody walks into Emu Park while I sketch on the beach. I meet a chap who tells me that he bought his little whippet because he didn’t want to be one of those people who looks like their dog. The trouble is, that the dog is eating so much that he is beginning to look like his owner! We both lament the increase in development on this coast.

Happy hour is at ours and dinner is a confit duck leg. Bloody hell, is that all?

Day 54 Friday 31/7/2026 Mulambin, 14 – 22

It’s a lazy start for me as I work on a story for the Mornington Peninsula Family History Library.

It’s hard to keep up with the movement of vans this year. It seems that most are only staying one night before moving on, which is odd because we’re 50kms off the main highway.

I take a long walk on Mulambin Beach while Woody goes off to feed carrots to the horses and have a beer at the Capricornia Cruising Yacht Club. And speaking of sailing, the land sailors are scooting along Mulambin Beach again.

I’m sure I’ve told you about the green tree frog living behind a service door of the amenities block. Of an evening everyone walks past bent over in the hope that they’ll get a glimpse of the little guy. But when I found one woman squatting and peering under the door, I was awfully tempted to point out that the door to the ladies was just behind her.

Dinner is roast lamb and vegies.

You’ve gotta love the stuff that Old Neptune casts up on tropical beaches.

  1. There was a sign on our loos at the Capricorn NRMA park to say to watch out for Kermy 🐸 but I reckon the sign’s five years old!
