The Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC), is an outstanding facility. There is parking for hundreds of caravans, campers and the big rigs, the fifth wheelers and buses. The office staff are cheery and organised and surprise us when they say that we can park anywhere we choose, but the system works and they do find us and put a registration sticker on our van. We have power and water. There is a laundry and a bbq. Like so many showgrounds we can watch trotters training from our doorstep and on the Sunday the Farmers Market sets up within the grounds, it’s a real treat to have a market come to us for a change. The market isn’t cheap but of high quality. We buy colourful little tomatoes, red garlic and soft fluffy spelt bread. Woody has gyozas for breakfast and the lamb and mint pies from Gum Tree Pies of Yackandandah are so good that we buy a half dozen more.

For a city park EPIC is surprisingly quiet, OK I hear you. Canberra isn’t all that big a city and it certainly doesn’t have a reputation for nightlife! Best of all the new light rail system has a station at EPIC and it is only 5kms down Northbourne Ave to the CBD.

For those of you who view a city stay as a chance for an Asian food fix, then the buzzing restaurants of Dickson (just down the road) fit the bill.
