On the Road Again – Kangaroo Caretakers

Day 43 Monday 20/7/2026 Mulambin, very windy 17 – 21

We have a lazy coffee in the sun and after lunch it’s off to Yeppoon for a bit of shopping before a short drive out to the old Capricorn Resort. Once the star attraction of Yeppoon it closed in 2016. The Japanese owners still operate the well rated restaurant and the golf course, but I believe that is to keep the licenses up. As always, a mob of kangaroos lounge about on the well-maintained lawns in sight of the large, empty hotel.

Halt! Who goes there?

The wind has strengthened forcing us to retreat to the comfort of BM’s cabin for happy hour. The others are late because when Double or Nuthin’ replaced the filter on their drinking water tap this morning he failed to seal it properly. While they were out for the afternoon, the caravan washed itself thoroughly, inside.

While we yap, our dinner cooks by itself too, in the oven, pork steaks in a creamy sauce with spinach, champignons and risoni.

Accom: $56.00

  1. Glad you saw ‘roos. For many years i travelled to Australia a couple of times a year, two to three weeks each trip, from Perth to Brisbane, Melbourne, etc. I was convinced there were no kangaroos because i never once saw one until my 20+ trip there, so glad you go to see them up close.
