Twenty kilometres from Clermont in Central Queensland, the Theresa Creek Dam gives you a choice between the feel of being in the bush and that of a resort park. There is a general store that is run by the management that provides basic needs and light meals like Turkish toasties, burgers and fish & chips. The store is set in a garden and grassed area with playground facilities for children. It is an inviting spot for a morning coffee. There are sloping grassed sites close to the lakeshore with stunning views. Behind the store there is a flat well grassed area without views to the lake but bushland behind. Then there are several areas is reasonably flat sites in a bushland setting with views through the trees to the lake. Further away and a short drive is a secluded area overlooking the lily pads where each site has its own ‘carport’ for shelter.

We found the lakeside spots to be a little uneven but they would suit a smaller van or camper trailer. The bushland suited us to a tee. There are plenty of amenities scattered about with hot showers.

The bird life is prolific. On the lake there are egrets, pelicans, cormorants, coots and ducks. Apostle birds rule the roost grumbling and chattering to themselves as they waddle about the grass. Lorikeets aren’t at all shy nor the honeyeaters.

We saw kangaroos and the evidence of possums and bandicoots. The dam is stocked with fish and red claw (fresh water crayfish) and there is a boat ramp.

Some nights the management puts on a movie on the lawn and serves fish and chips. Fifteen dollars a head covers dinner, the movie and a donation to the RACQ Helicopters. Pretty good value considering that the meal is large.

There were about fifty vans there when we visited yet it was incredibly peaceful and if you are in a bushland setting like we were the sites are large and there are plenty of fire pits for those dreamy nights under the stars around the fire.

 This is the kind of place for a well deserved chill out just watching the birds and the moods of the lake.
