Day 26
Wednesday 1st April 2015
Pemberton to Yallingup
Holy hell, we’ve got a wedding to go to!
We roll on through pretty farms and vineyards to Nannup with its quaint timber shops and old verandahs. I wish we had more time to explore it. Margaret River township is bigger than when we were last here a few years ago and it is bustling.
And then we’re in Yallingup, the end of this leg. The Caves Caravan Park overlooks the distant sparkling Indian Ocean. Across the road there is a cute little wooden shop selling kugelhopf cakes….yum. There’s a jumping post office that is really a coffee shop in disguise, they do that a lot over here. But the piece de resistance is the classic old 1920’s Caves Hotel set in manicured lawns and gardens and now home to the young and trendy and the surfing population. It’s perfect for a celebratory drink on arrival on the west coast.

How nice is Caves House! We stayed there when we walked the Cape To Cape in 2012. The caravn park you stayed in look nice too, and the one down closer to the beach is very popular. The Gugelhupf bakery is owned by a German family that also run a couple of traditional, woodfired bakeries in Yallingup and Margaret River. If you ever get back here you need to try their sourdough bread, its excellent.

I think we did try their sourdough. Woody always searches out the best bread and coffee beans. He found a roaster in Dunsborough. I know why you settled there it is a beautiful region.
