Day 87 Thursday, 4/8/2016, Jondaryan to Toowoomba, a smidgeon warmer
Before our bums have been warmed by the heated seats we’ve hit the outskirts of Toowoomba and boy it is larger than we had expected. With excitement we ditch the van and head back into the CBD! Oh Lordy it’s a coffee town! Treed streets, four grand churches, fabulous architecture and more coffee shops than we can count on our fingers and toes.

Of course, we look like tourists and a young woman stops me on the street and tells me what sights must not be missed. And silly me I’m thinking she is trying to rob me! Well, she should be employed by the council as we had no idea of the ‘situation’ of this city. We follow her advice and set off for Picnic Point, driving past neat homes with manicured gardens and soon realise that the city is actually perched on the edge of a precipice similar to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains only here this much larger city overlooks the fertile Lockyer Valley far below.
Picnic Point has a sublime view over the valley, walking trails, a restaurant, pretty gardens and a man-made waterfall tucked into the hillside.

With the light fading we visit the Queens Park botanical garden.

I can identify with looking like a tourist – especially as I always carry a camera

It’s a strange thing isn’t it? We wander the streets we know so well looking like we’ve never seen them before. A dear relative once said “It’s ok she sees things” as I was photographing the rafters in the mirror.
