We camp beside a couple of Kiwi lasses travelling on their six month limit. To retain their government entitlements they must return home every six months. They’ve been in Australia for six whole days and they are loving every minute of it. Trouble is they’ve been at the back of the Bouldercombe Pub for the last three days and haven’t moved. At this rate I doubt they’ll see much of Australia before their 6 months is up.
Ah, but they prove us wrong. Many months later we pull into Corella Dam, way up in North Western Queensland between Mt Isa and Cloncurry and there they are set up with a lovely view of the lake. They’ve just spent a week in the dust at the Boulia camel races and are now relishing the heat and more red dust. When I ask where home actually is and learn that it is Queen Charlotte Sound I almost fall off the rock I’m perched on. The Sound has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth.

To travel as you do must be wonderful. I envy you.

Thank you. We’re just trying to do as much as we can before time and our ageing bodies catch up with us 😉
