Port Douglas, Qld
You need to book early as caravan parks close to town get ridiculously busy in Port Douglas. The camp sites are tight too, but it is a heavenly place to stay when you are walking distance from the main Macrossan Street. The town is best described as a small peninsula, 4-mile beach is on one side, the inlet, marina and river on the other. The action is at the far end where busy Macrossan Street crosses from beach to inlet.
Celebrating the sunrise and toasting the sunset on 4-Mile Beach, barrier reef tours, croc tours, memorable pubs, bars and restaurants, lots of good music and a fabulous market. There’s plenty to see and do just on foot. A short drive away is Mossman and the serene Mossman Gorge.

4-Mile Beach, Port Douglas

I stayed there with friends two years ago for two weeks. We were easy walking distance to 4 Mile Beach. Lots to do, good places to eat, but we especially enjoyed the bird sanctuary, a couple of Kms from the centre of town. Loved 4 mile beach, but not so the inlet which had many signs suggesting not to go near the water because of crocs. Yikes. Us Kiwis have croc for other big animals to fear, except other Kiwis I guess.

It’s changed so much and become very built up and touristy. Still a beautiful part of FNQ though.
