Day 10 Wednesday 17/6/2026, Grafton, 23
Woody walks into town while I have a sleep in. Later in the morning we walk around town and I get a chance to photograph some of the attractive homes that he has found. On our visits last year I was recording the public buildings, this time it’s a chance to focus on the houses. It seems that every house in Grafton is different and of course street after street is lined with jacarandas. Grafton is proud of its annual Jacaranda Festival.

In town we grab a couple of banh mi for lunch and munch them in the park.
Back at camp, there’s a large tree beside us that the plant apps seem to think is a native plum. Plum or not, I wish it would stop dropping fruit on our roof. As I sit here sketching in the quiet of the evening water suddenly drops on the roof, I now realise that it’s not the tree dropping the fruit but possums, and we’ve just been peed on.
Accom: $35.00
Fuel: $67.88 (2.039) 33.29 litres

You think we would learn after all this time, but we still make the mistake of parking under lovely shady gumtrees only to have them drop gumnuts on the roof all night. 🙂

Ohhh, nothing worse than getting peed on by possums, especially during dinner!

At home they use our fence as a long drop, cheeky little buggers.

There’s something so satisfying about a slow morning that ends with you ambling around a town just to photograph its old houses. Grafton has such handsome timber homes for exactly that. A sleep-in followed by an unhurried walk is our favorite kind of travel day too. (Also, the possum saga in the comments made me laugh out loud.)

Forget bird droppings. You’ve unlocked the rare possumbrella experience.
